Solar Panel Installation in SW Wisconsin

Grid-tied solar systems for homes, farms and small businesses.

A New Solar System, Designed Around Your Building

Putting solar on a building means more than setting panels on a roof. The array must fit the structure, the wiring must fit your service panel, and the whole thing must satisfy your utility and the inspector. Sparks Electrical Solutions installs grid-tied solar systems, with our master electrician licensed in Wisconsin and Minnesota, who has solar industry experience, leading the design.

We serve homeowners, farms with large shop and barn roofs, and small commercial buildings. The aim is an honest assessment: whether your roof, your panel and your usage justify a system, and what the project would involve if they do. You will also hear what we cannot promise, because production depends on weather and shading, and we make no claims about savings.

What's Included

  • Site and roof review for shade and orientation
  • Electrical panel and service capacity check
  • Load review from your usage history
  • System design to NEC Articles 690 and 705
  • Permit applications and plan submittal
  • Utility interconnection application
  • Rapid shutdown equipment per NEC 690.12
  • Final inspection scheduling
  • Commissioning and monitoring setup

The Federal Credit Has Ended

The federal Residential Clean Energy Credit, Section 25D, is gone for homeowners: it is not available for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. We make no savings promises. We will show you the design, the scope and the incentives that still exist, and you can judge the project on its merits.

Site Review and Capacity Check

We start on the roof and at the panel. On the roof we look at pitch, direction, shading from trees and chimneys, and the condition of the covering, since an aging roof is better replaced before panels go on. At the panel we check the bus rating, breaker space and service size, because adding solar can call for a panel upgrade or a supply-side connection. Those findings shape the design before any equipment is chosen.

Design, Permits and Interconnection

Designs follow NEC Article 690 for the photovoltaic circuits and Article 705 for connecting to the building's wiring. We prepare the plans, file the electrical permit, and apply to your utility for interconnection, since no system may run in parallel with the grid until the utility approves. Roof structure and racking may also require building permits, depending on the town. We track each application so the project moves in the right order.

Incentives That Still Apply

In Wisconsin, Focus on Energy offers a 2026 residential solar rebate of $600 per kW, up to $2,400 for a single-family home. The site must be served by a participating utility, the application is due within 60 days of installation and no later than January 31, 2027, and the rebate cannot exceed project cost. Xcel Energy Minnesota customers can look at Solar*Rewards, a production incentive paid under a 10-year contract that requires preapproval before installation. Check xcelenergy.com for current terms.

Inspection and Commissioning

After installation comes inspection, then the utility's permission to operate. Once cleared, we power up the system, verify each string, test rapid shutdown and set up monitoring so you can see production. We walk you through the display and explain what normal output looks like across the seasons. Utility approval is a separate step from the inspection, and we track both so you know exactly when switching on is allowed.

Farms and Small Commercial Buildings

Large, south-facing outbuilding roofs suit solar well, but farms add conditions: long wire runs, three-phase service, dust and livestock buildings with corrosion concerns. Small commercial systems raise questions about tenants, roof ownership and utility billing class. We discuss these early. For tax questions on a business system, your tax advisor is the right person. Roof loads on older barns also deserve a look from a qualified person before racking goes on, and we raise that early.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the federal solar tax credit still available?

Not for homeowners. The Section 25D credit does not apply to property placed in service after December 31, 2025. For a business system, ask your tax advisor what applies to your situation.

What is the Focus on Energy solar rebate?

For 2026, it is $600 per kW, up to $2,400 for a single-family home, if a participating utility serves the site. Apply within 60 days of installation and by January 31, 2027. Check focusonenergy.com for current rules.

Do you install solar in Minnesota?

Yes. Minnesota work, including new solar installs, is led by our master electrician licensed in Minnesota. Xcel Energy Minnesota customers can look into Solar*Rewards, which requires preapproval before installation. Minnesota towns, utilities and inspection details are on our service areas page.

Will my panel need an upgrade?

Sometimes. We check the panel's rating, breaker space and service size during the site review. If capacity is short, we explain the options before you commit. Where the panel is full, a supply-side connection or a new panel may solve it, and we describe the choices.

Who applies to the utility?

We prepare and submit the interconnection application and follow it through. Your system cannot operate in parallel with the grid until the utility approves it. Rules differ between utilities, including cooperatives and municipal systems, so we follow each one's process.

How do I start a solar project?

Call (608) 871-1379 to talk through your building and what a project would involve. Free estimates are standard, and the first conversation is simply about whether solar fits your building.
